Breakfast Fruit

half a melon (used a honeydew - kids want to try a watermelon)
2 cups strawberries
2 bananas
2 pears
1/4 cup flax seed
1 cup water

pulse several times and then blend until smooth - took about 5 minutes

The kids loved this one - couldn't even taste the flax seed. Might be because the liquid content was so high.

Dinner with carrots

2 cups carrots
2 cups strawberries
1 cup spinach
2 cups Romaine lettuce
4 celery sticks
1/4 cup flaxseed
1 cup bananas
1 cup pear slices
2 cups milk
2 tablespoons honey

pulse several times then blend for 6-7 minutes

Lizzie does not like this one at all, the rest of us are okay with it - not a favorite though

Breakfast Berry/Banana

1 cup strawberries
2 bananas
2 apples, cored and sliced
2 pears, cored and sliced (I used canned pears because I didn't have fresh ones in the house)
1 cup grapes
1/4 cup ground flax seed
1 cup baby spinach
1 cup Romaine lettuce
1/4 cup honey
1 cup milk

Pulse several times then blend all together for 2 minutes.

This was drinkable, very sweet, still very filling. Had any of this been frozen, it might have also required a spoon.

Things I would do differently - needed to blend it a little more as it wasn't quite smooth so instead of about 2 minutes, maybe as much as 5.

Dinner Sweet

2 cups baby spinach
1 banana
2 cups whole strawberries
1/2 cup ground flax seed
1 cup milk (or other liquid - original recipe called for water)
6 celery sticks

Pulse several times then blend for about 4 minutes.

It was tasty, very filling, and very thick because my strawberries and banana were frozen so we ended up eating it with a fork or spoon.

Things I will change next time around - only 1/4 cup flax seed, add another banana and 2 more celery sticks.

Smoothies We Like

So we just started trying smoothies as meals, not just treats, having been inspired by Karen while we were on vacation.

This blog is an attempt to capture the recipes we like so we can find and duplicate them!

I hope some of you find this useful also.

Happy Veggies to You!
